2014 HGTV Dream Home Tours Raise Money for Tahoe Forest Health System Foundation

TAHOE, Calif. [March 12,2014] – While more than 72 million entries for the 2014 HGTV Dream Home were pouring into Scripps Networks Interactive, over 5,000 HGTV fans in the Tahoe community took their interest a step further with a tour of the actual home.  Proceeds raised from tour admissions resulted in a $51,047 contribution to Tahoe Forest Health System Foundation, from HGTV partner and developer, Schaffer’s Mill.  

During the tour season, Schaffer’s Mill partnered with volunteers from the Tahoe Forest Health System Foundation to set up the tours.  The HGTV Dream Home sweepstakes is wildly popular, so it’s no surprise that people are delighted with the opportunity to see the 3,200-square foot home in person.  

“When we go into a community, we want to create a positive experience with our partners and give back to the communities which are so welcoming to us.  These tours of the HGTV Dream Homes have allowed our brand to drive local contributions to a variety of charities year after year in communities such as Charleston, SC; Park City, UT; Stowe, VT; Sonoma, CA, among others.”, said Cindy McConkey, Senior Vice President of Corporate Responsibility for HGTV’s parent company, Scripps Networks Interactive.

The site for the modern mountain retreat was selected last spring when the HGTV team toured the private Golf and Lake Club and realized the 2014 home could be built with the perfect background of inspiration.  The home is a mix of traditional and contemporary styles blending indoors and outdoors in the beautiful setting of  Schaffer’s Mill, a 475-acre, 400-homesite gated community just east of Truckee.  The 2014 HGTV Dream Home was designed by Truckee-based Ward-Young Architects and was built by Tanamera Builders. 

John Marlin, Managing Partner for Schaffer’s Mill said he is “excited and proud” to be a part of the 2014 HGTV Dream Home, and in particular, the opportunity to give back to the local community through the $51,000 donation. “We had more than 5,000 HGTV fans tour the Dream Home and can’t thank the Tahoe Forest Health System Foundation enough for their volunteer efforts in helping us manage Dream Home tours,” Marlin added.

The HGTV Dream Home was first revealed on television on January 1 in a one-hour show.  Fans entered to win the home via the and websites during the sweepstakes.  On April 15, 2014, the winner will be announced during the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway show on HGTV at 6p ET.
