Knoxville Area Urban League Honor Students Tour Scripps Networks Interactive Headquarters

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. {For Release, April  23, 2014} – Scripps Networks Interactive hosted a tour for over 40 students as part of the company’s  ongoing partnership with the Knoxville Area Urban League.  The students selected for the tour are involved in the KAUL’s honors program, which unites highly achieving academic high school students with opportunities to learn and connect in their communities.

Phyllis Nichols, KAUL President and CEO, expressed her appreciation of the partnership with Scripps “for many reasons, but one of the best is the opportunity provided to the students to see, explore, engage and imagine what their career could be.”

The students were taken on a tour of the Scripps Networks Headquarters in Knoxville for a behind-the-scenes look at various media functions.  The highlight of the tour was the preview of the Brother vs. Brother promotion that will hit the air in a few weeks.  Scripps’ producer Santos Lopez shared his perspective about the video shoot HGTV’s popular Property Brothers, Jonathan and Drew Scott, including just how many hours of filming translate into a 30-second promo, what kind of dust is needed for the best visual effect and how many injuries really happened on that calorie-burning stunt day.

After the tour, the students heard from Scripps Networks leaders, Dennis Shuler, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resource Office, and Twuanna Munroe Ward, Vice President of Distribution Accounting and Sales.  Key messages student took away:  excel in all that you do, never stop learning, and make and keep connections

Scripps Networks executives also said they learned something from the event. As Shuler put it, “It’s nice it is to see a great young group of future leaders defy how the next generation is sometimes portrayed.  Very  impressive students who I know will make a positive difference in the workplace if given the opportunity to do so.”

This event is another reflection of Scripps Network Interactive’s commitment to Change the World by making our communities the best places to live, work and play.”
