Kiawah Island is the HGTV Dream Home location for 2013. The 3,000 square foot home was custom-built, fully-furnished on Kiawah Island alongside a tidal marsh in the Indigo Park Community.
The home is a part of the 17th annual HGTV Dream Home sweepstakes awarded in March 2013. The official HGTV Dream Home Giveaway entry period opens in late December.
“This year’s HGTV Dream Home is the epitome of coastal living at its best,” said HGTV Professional Home Planner Jack Thomasson. “Our partners are meticulous stewards of the environment and recognize that building a spectacular HGTV Dream Home can co-exist with preserving the beauty and unique attributes of Kiawah Island.”
According to designers, this year's home was designed in harmony with its environment while maintaining a contemporary flair. It features an earth-friendly “Lowcountry Zen” architectural style. The three-bedroom home includes a double-height great room, a large gourmet kitchen with an adjacent pantry and laundry room, a central dining area and a multi-purpose loft space overlooking the great room. It also has two stories and is built on pilings that elevate the main level 12 feet from the ground.
According to the architect on the project, some of the unique elements of the home include solid beam trusses, heavy timber exterior supports with exposed custom steel connections, a spacious rear deck with a plunge pool and carefully placed windows for generous views of the tidal marsh grasses and waterway.
